Me Marc-Antoine Aubert

Born and raised in Switzerland, Mr Aubert studied law at the University of Lausanne where he did a Ph.D. with a dissertation in criminal procedure after a stint at the University of California at Berkeley and a few judicial positions, notably as a magistrate, in his home town. Then he moved to Asia to work with international companies in Hong Kong, Guangzhou and Beijing for several years. There he was instrumental in setting up and managing Sino-foreign joint ventures in mainland China. This work led him to visit all the provinces of China, to build a strong network of relationships, to speak fluent mandarin and to read and write the Chinese characters in both classic and simplified forms.

After returning to Switzerland Mr Aubert passed the Bar examination in 1995 after a two-year traineeship and set up a law practice the next year in Lausanne. In 2002 he travelled to China as a member of a delegation of the Institute of Federalism of the University of Fribourg for a study tour on the Chinese judicial system. His interest in Labour Law has led him to assume a part-time function as a judge in the Labour court for the Civil service of the canton of Vaud since the inception of this body in 2003. In 2006 he established, along with two partners, Legalia law firm in its current premises overlooking the heart of Lausanne. In 2015 he was honoured the Royal Decoration of the Cross of the Romanian Royal House by Her Majesty Margareta, Custodian of the Crown of Romania.

Mr Aubert handles cases in various fields of law before the local and cantonal courts of French-speaking Switzerland as well as before federal courts. On occasions he has also pleaded before the International Chamber of Commerce in Paris and the China International Economic, Trade and Arbitration Commission in Beijing. Apart from court work he advises his clientele, both domestic and foreign, in setting up businesses, buying property, obtaining residency status and drafting contracts. He also collaborates with well-established law firms in Nanjing and Shanghai.
